06.28.11 Ishmael Sondag

with 3 comments

I met Ishmael while I was jogging at the Sea Point Promenade in Cape Town.  He comes from Bloemfontein, the capital of the Free State, a province of the Republic of South Africa.  In less than a minute of conversation, Ishmael confided in me that his ultimate goal is to have his own clothing line.  His enthusiasm for fashion, in my opinion, is unparalleled.  He also likes to dance, can fix a radio that has broken into many pieces and seems to know everybody in the vicinity of the Promenade.  Over the next month, I hope to learn more about Ishmael’s life; about the elation and sadness that attends his days while living on the Promenade.
